Instrumentational operation and analytical methodology for the reconciliation of aerosol water uptake under sub- and supersaturated conditions 1Centre of Atmospheric Science, School of Earth Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences, University of Manchester, Manchester, UK *now at: Laboratoire de Météorologie Physique, Blaise Pascal Univ., Clermont Ferrand, France Abstract. The methodology for the operation and calibration of a hygroscopicity tandem differential mobility analyser (HTDMA) and cloud condensation nuclei counter (CCNc) for size-resolved measurements of aerosol water uptake are presented. A state of the science aerosol thermodynamic model is used to benchmark the performance of the instruments. The performance, calibration and operation of the instruments is then demonstrated in the field.
